Council of International Graduate Students (CIGS) is a new recognized student organization established by international graduate students at the beginning of 2014. CIGS is the only one of its kind at Big Ten University (also among leading American comprehensive research universities) today. The idea was to create a space/place for international graduate students to get our voice about academic, professional, and social development heard. CIGS will represent the views of current and former international graduate students to the University administration and to other relevant organizations.
Our values center on creating an inclusive environment to promote graduate student engagement and to enrich the on-campus intellectual ecosystem to become an innovative organization. CIGS is a place for all international graduate students/alums to get together and enrich our graduate student experiences at the University of Minnesota. CIGS can also bring great leadership experience to international graduate students and yield more international graduate student leaders in the whole university community.
