  • 4th for patent creation by Scientist Magazine, recognizing the University of Minnesota as a home to inventions and research breakthroughs
  • 8th in research spending by National Science Foundation
  • 9th best U.S. public research institution according to the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities
  • 37th top university in the U.S. by Q.S. World University Rankings
  • 71st best national university by U.S. News and World Report
  • More than 60% of our doctoral programs rank in the top 25% nationally, across a wide range of programs in agriculture, engineering, humanities, sciences and social sciences (National Research Council) 
  • First recipient of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)'s Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research, and Engagement — an award recognizing "institutions at the leading edge of inclusive and comprehensive efforts to internationalize their campuses”
